A scenic view of Foxburg’s Red Brick Gallery’s new Artistic Co-Operative

Now Open As An Artists’ Co-operative in Foxburg
It is a charming, old building on Main Street in Foxburg. The Red Brick as it has become known, is over 100 years old and was once the business office of the Fox Family. The building was restored recently and had opened as a Gift Shop. It has taken on a new look with an exciting inspired use, as an Artist Cooperative. The Red Brick Gallery and Shop created and supported by Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts is now open. With the help of local artist volunteers, The Red Brick displays and has for sale on consignment, works of local painters, photographers, and artisans. The purpose of the Red Brick Gallery is to support the Arts and artists in the surrounding region and provide a suitable venue for viewing art and a sales outlet. Art works are displayed in the shop space on the first floor and plans are to use the second floor as a gallery space for various exhibitions. In order to encourage and challenge local artists to continually hone their skills and to enhance the reputation of the Gallery, the work of artists who wish to become Co-op members and to display work on consignment will be juried by a panel appointed by ARCA.
The Red Brick will hold a new member screening on Saturday, October 15th. Individuals may apply for membership in the co-op by submitting three original pieces of art – two or three-dimensional – to be reviewed by the jury panel. Art must be galleryready (framed and wired) and completed within the last two years. More information will be available on the ARCA website: www.alleghenyriverstone.org by September 15th and at The Gallery including specific times for drop-off and pick-up. At present there is no paid staff, and since it is a co-operative undertaking, all displaying artists are expected to commit volunteer time in the Gallery Shop on a regular basis. The Red Brick is currently opened on weekends, Friday 4 PM to 8 PM, Saturday 12 PM to 8 PM Sunday 1 PM to 6 PM.
